April 2014 archive
I loathe going to the hairdresser. I get so bored and crabby. Good thing I know how to do my own 30vol scalp bleach or I’d look like a badger. If you’re of a similar ilk, you’ll enjoy this blog just a touch, and I have to say that hair^^ looks like it belongs to the owner of a hairdresser lover, not loather. Ah the power of an epic blow dry.
New book! New book! If you like funny, roadtrips, rock bottom and the tales that ensue, give this one a look.
This caught my eye just for the cover. Much like. If anyone reads it, kick in a review in the comments below. Because cheeky.
The powerhouse Sweaty Betty PR are the queens of collaboration. Kicking off with Vittoria Coffee, takeaway coffee cups went from every day to eye-popping, with a hand-picked cluster of our most amazing design houses designing new Vittoria coffee cups, each with their own unique signature. A great promo and collab in itself.
But taking it a step further, the crew at Sweaty Betty created gorgeous skins for their fleet of Fashion Week Alfa Romeos, transforming each Alfa into a design showcase. Loves.
Jaguar. Tom Hiddleston. The Art of Villainy. Listen to this one with the sound up. Excuse me while I go and compose myself.
The Porsche Macan is hitting Australian shores in June 2014. While Porsche have said they’ve ordered plenty in their first batch, all predictions are pointing to a massive sales success for the brand and those who don’t get their orders in early are likely to be waiting until next year to get their paws on this rather gorgeous car. It’s hotly tipped to become the best-selling Porsche model in less than 12 months.
All signs point to a whole lot of win for the Porsche Macan.
A smaller cousin to the Cayenne, the Porsche Macan (pronounced Mac-arn and meaning Tiger) has three models, all with a seven-speed dual-clutch “PDK” auto transmission. Early reviews say it performs better than expected for this style of transmission, another good sign.
The three models kick off with a turbo diesel, and two twin turbo petrol models (a 3-litre V6 and top of the range 3.6L V6).
The Macan looks a lot like a Cayenne from the front, as Porsche was looking to maintain the style while going compact and it’s worked beautifully.
While the Macan is more compact than then Cayenne, there’s a 500 litre cargo space with the rear seats up, and a pretty epic 1500 litres with the rear seats stashed out of the way.
The Macan has eight airbags and is likely to score a five-star safety rating.
The pricing for the Australian market is sitting between $85K and $123K. It’s certainly not the cheapest compact SUV on the market, but it’s a much lower price point than we initially expected.

I could cry, these cars are gorgeous.
With the strapline “The Original Remastered”, the new Mini lands in Australia on the 12th April 2014.
It’s all about three doors, and will be available in three models:
- Mini Cooper – 1.5L, 3 cylinder. Starting from around $30K.
- Mini Cooper D – 1.5L, 3 cylinder Twin Power Turbo – very fast for the fuel efficiencies, plus a few more design options. Top speed of 205kph. Starting from around $36K.
- Mini Cooper S – It’s all about the 4-cylinder Turbo engine. About 4 seconds faster from 0-100kph than the Mini Cooper D. Starting from around $41K.
There are a lot of attractive design refinements, with a key standout being an enhanced centre dash LED setup, and totally integrated social tools. We love a plugged-in car. All of the new models have USB input and BlueTooth.
I’ve got a real soft spot in my heart for Minis, as an ex of mine used to race a vintage one (aptly named Mrs Peel) and it absolutely slammed – it had twin-cam turbo and was just amazing. Keeping in mind he was about 6ft 3″, not everyone appreciates how much Tardis-style room there is in a Mini, nor how much they’ve got under the bonnet. We’ll let you know more about the new Mini as it comes to hand. Needless to say, we’ll be angling to test and review one.
Meanwhile, if you’d like to download the e-brochure or book a test drive, you can do that here.
Happy Satuday, motorinas! Don’t forget, for us Melbournites, at 3am tonight it’s all about the daylight savings change, so don’t get caught out! We’ve had all sorts of awesome Fashion Week shenanigans going on in town, including the very memorable Curvy Couture Roadshow (those of you there may have seen me repping the gorgeous Misty Belvidere brand), so I decided to do a decidedly non-motoring post tonight. I draw your attention to the most gorgeous clutch I think I’ve ever seen, currently available at Feathers for $199. Happy shopping!
